International Woman’s Day

Women are the life force of the earth. Without women, nothing would be created. I have always believed each woman is unique and valuable, and that every woman is beautiful. Where ever You live on the planet, have a wonderful International Woman’s Day. Take time out to celebrate the women in Your life. Love is the currency on which women operate. Think of all of the behind the scenes activities women are responsible for. Women from all walks of life have a serious impact. Consider all of the children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren born, and raised to adulthood. Mothers everywhere understand the true value of  hard work and sacrifice. Consider too, women and girls in third world nations improving their communities one step at a time.

March 8 marks the annual event of International Woman’s Day  The earliest observance was called National Women’s Day, on February 28 in New York City, organised by The Socialist Party Of America. On March 8th, 1917 in St Petersburg, Russia, Women held a demonstration for “Bread And Peace”, demanding the end of World War I,  widespread food shortages in Russia and the end of the feudal system.  At the time, protests of this nature  were common  throughout Europe and England, as the feudal system collapsed. The United Nations officially recognized International Woman’s Day in 1975, creating a theme for each year’s event.

What are My goals and objectives for  International Woman’s  Day ?  A life long feminist, I  hope, wish and pray for everything  possible – Improved healthcare, educational and career  opportunities for woman around the globe.  I would like to see an end to domestic violence, human trafficking, and  sexual harassment. I would like to see an end to gender discrimination. Find a way to express Your own personal views. Whether Your views are traditional  or contemporary, matters not. This event is an opportunity to reach out to other women in Your community. This is an event that can make a difference. This year’s theme is “Push For Progress.” Let’s make this happen however We can !!!

Many cultures around the world celebrate this day by giving women flowers and small gifts. Because International Woman’s Day originated within socialist agendas, many people are uncomfortable with the event. My own view is that there are never enough ways to thank the women on this planet. Mothers, Grandmothers, Daughters, Aunts, Cousins, Neighbors, Friends, and Colleagues – the list goes on. I am on board with any day which celebrates the contributions and achievements of women. Political affiliations are each woman’s individual preference.  Speak out and speak up for the women around You. Be an active part of the solution, what ever Your views. Find a way to contribute in Your own personal way .There will be many women’s marches and events in cities around the globe.
